Molecular dynamic simulation: Study on the recognition mechanism of linear β-(1 → 3)-D-glucan by Dectin-1

Xuan Feng et al.

Summary: Through MD simulation and docking techniques, we investigated the recognition mechanism between bglc and Dectin-1, revealing the important roles of Trp221, His223, and Tyr228 in stabilizing the recognition complex and the clear preference of the recognition mode on the relative direction of triple-helix bglc.

Dectin-1b activation by arabinoxylans induces trained immunity in human monocyte-derived macrophages

Bart G. J. Moerings et al.

Summary: Arabinoxylans of different structures and sources can induce immune responses in different cell types, possibly through the activation of pattern recognition receptors. They can also induce a non-specific memory response in innate immune cells through the activation of specific receptors. Arabinoxylan preparations from rice and wheat can induce immune training and resilience effects in human macrophages, mainly dependent on the Dectin-1b receptor.

Phagosomal signalling of the C-type lectin receptor Dectin-1 is terminated by intramembrane proteolysis

Torben Mentrup et al.

Summary: Dectin-1 plays a critical role in recognizing fungal pathogens through pattern recognition receptors on immune cells. Activation of Dectin-1a results in the formation of a stable receptor fragment lacking the ligand binding domain, which contributes to signal transduction in phagosomal membranes and is terminated by intramembrane proteases SPPL2a and 2b.

Nanoreduction as a technology to exploit β-Glucan from cereal and fungal sources for enhancing its nutraceutical potential

Zanoor Ul Ashraf et al.

Summary: Beta-glucan nanoparticles from cereal and fungal sources, such as oats, barley, and yeast, were produced using ball milling, a green technology. These nanoparticles showed enhanced nutraceutical properties, including antioxidant, anticancerous, antimicrobial, and antihypertensive activities, with an increase in activity upon size reduction.

Water-soluble polysaccharides from Pleurotus eryngii fruiting bodies, their activity and affinity for Toll-like receptor 2 and dectin-1

Christiane Faerestrand Ellefsen et al.

Summary: This study isolated and characterized Pleurotus eryngii polysaccharide fractions containing various polysaccharides, and found that different components had different effects on TLR2 and dectin-1 activation. The activation of the human β-1,3-glucan receptor dectin-1 was correlated with the amount of beta-glucan in each fraction.
