Chemoradiation therapy of 4T1 cancer cells with methotrexate conjugated platinum nanoparticles under X-Ray irradiation

Kadir Yaray et al.

Summary: Bovine serum albumin (BSA) coated platinum (Pt) nanoparticles (Pt@BSA NPs) were synthesized and conjugated with an anticancer drug (MTX) for chemoradiation therapy. The physical and chemical properties of Pt@BSA-MTX were evaluated using various techniques. The release behavior of Pt@BSA-MTX depended on the presence of enzyme, which accelerated the release of MTX. The combination of a nanoradiosensitizer with a chemotherapeutic agent demonstrated superior anticancer activity after X-ray exposure in vitro.

Preparation of alginate coated Pt nanoparticle for radiosensitization of breast cancer tumor

Hamid Rashidzadeh et al.

Summary: As noble metals, high atomic number elements can localize X-ray radiation within tumor cells by exploiting different mechanisms. In this study, alginate-coated platinum nanoparticles were synthesized and used as a radiosensitizer to enhance X-ray therapeutic efficacy in breast cancer. The nanoparticles not only improved biocompatibility and stability, but also induced higher levels of intracellular ROS and enhanced cancer cell death under X-ray irradiation. Both in vitro and in vivo results demonstrated the radiosensitizing properties of the nanosystem. The importance of radiosensitizers for improving radiotherapy outcomes was highlighted.

Enhanced In Vivo Radiotherapy of Breast Cancer Using Gadolinium Oxide and Gold Hybrid Nanoparticles

Hamed Nosrati et al.

Summary: Radiation therapy shows promising effectiveness against various cancers, and nanoparticles of high-atomic-number (high-Z) materials can enhance X-ray radiation therapy. In this study, bovine serum albumin capped gadolinium oxide and gold nanoparticles (Gd2O3@BSA-Au NPs) are developed as a bimetallic radiosensitizer to maximize radiation therapy within tumors. In vitro tests and evaluation in a breast cancer murine model confirm the radiosensitizing ability of the nanoparticles. Applying Gd2O3@BSA-Au NPs under X-ray irradiation significantly improves cancer therapy efficacy, as evidenced by studies on cell viability, proliferation, reactive oxygen species production, and in vivo anti-tumor effect.

Alginate coated superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles as nanocomposite adsorbents for arsenic removal from aqueous solutions

Somayeh Asadi Haris et al.

Summary: Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) were synthesized and used for efficient removal of arsenite (As(III)). The optimum removal percentages for SPIONs and SPIONs-Alg were 99% and 90%, respectively, at pH 7, 30 degrees C, and 6.5 mg/L As (III) concentration. The Langmuir isotherm model fitted the equilibrium data better than Freundlich. The adsorption kinetic data showed a better fit to the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. SPIONs-Alg could be easily collected, recovered, and reused for multiple cycles with high sorption efficiency.
