Removal of nickel from Ni(II)-NH3-SO2-CO2-H2O system by electrocoagulation, sedimentation and filtration processes

Armando Rojas Vargas et al.

Summary: The electrocoagulation method was studied for the removal of nickel from the Ni(II)-NH3-CO2-SO2-H2O system. The maximum nickel removal rate was found to be 99.7%, with operating parameters such as nickel concentration ranging from 255 to 342 mg/L, current density between 11.0 and 16.6 mA/cm2, pH of 8.34 ± 0.06, mean temperature of 58.4 ± 3.9 °C, and retention time of 50 min. The precipitate formed during the process contained 37.2% nickel content and had a true density of 2720 kg/m3, exhibiting a hydrotalcite-like structure.

Nickel removal from wastewater using electrocoagulation process with zinc electrodes under various operating conditions: performance investigation, mechanism exploration, and cost analysis

Omar A. Shaker et al.

Summary: This study investigates the removal of nickel (Ni) from synthetic and real wastewater using the electrocoagulation method. The results demonstrate that electrocoagulation has a better performance in Ni removal compared to chemical coagulation. The optimal operating conditions are a current density of 10 mA/cm(2), a pH of 9.2, and a gap distance of 4 cm. The kinetic data are best represented by the second-order Lagergren model. The maximum electrical energy consumption for Ni removal is 23.79 KWh/m(3).

Understanding the Electric Double-Layer Structure, Capacitance, and Charging Dynamics

Jianzhong Wu

Summary: Significant progress has been made in recent years in theoretical modeling of the electric double layer. However, understanding the microscopic details of the electrochemical interface and charging mechanisms under realistic conditions remains a major challenge. This review explores theoretical methods to describe the equilibrium and dynamic responses of the electric double layer structure and capacitance in electrochemical systems, with special emphasis on recent advances in studying nonclassical behavior of the electric double layer.

Nickel Removing by Electrocoagulation of Ni(II)-NH3-CO2-SO2-H2O System. Kinetics, Isothermal, Mechanism and Estimated Cost of Operation

Armando Rojas Vargas et al.

Summary: This study investigated the electrocoagulation method for removing nickel from a Ni(II)-NH3-CO2-SO2-H2O system at the laboratory scale. The results showed high removal efficiencies of nickel under specific conditions, with the process involving external diffusion, nucleation, chemical reactions, and possible autocatalytic contributions. Characterization of the precipitates revealed the formation of typical nickel-aluminum layered double hydroxide structures. The operational costs of energy and electrode consumption were also evaluated.

Corrosion challenges in petroleum refinery operations: Sources, mechanisms, mitigation, and future outlook

Aisha H. Al-Moubaraki et al.

Summary: Corrosion in petroleum refineries is a significant challenge due to the reliance of the global economy on oil and gas industries. Despite the vast amount of information available, there is a lack of comprehensive reviews on corrosion mitigation in refinery operations. Further research and development of advanced mitigation strategies are needed to effectively address corrosion issues in refineries.

Hydraulic Characteristics, Residence Time Distribution, and Flow Field of Electrochemical Descaling Reactor Using CFD

Bolin Hu et al.

Summary: This study used CFD to simulate the flow field distribution inside an electrochemical descaling reactor, investigating the effects of plate height and plate spacing on reactor hydraulic characteristics through RTD curves. The results indicate that increasing plate height and decreasing plate spacing can make the flow more similar to plug flow and reduce backmixing in the reactor.
