Knowledge, Attitude, Practice, and Fear of COVID-19: an Online-Based Cross-cultural Study

Mohammad Ali et al.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) and fear level towards COVID-19 among the general population in 8 different countries across 5 continents. The study found significant variations in knowledge scores among different regions, gender groups, marital statuses, and education qualifications. Fear scores also varied across regions. However, there was no correlation between fear and knowledge. The findings suggest that health education programs should consider sociodemographic factors and regional differences to promote a positive attitude and good practices during outbreaks of highly contagious diseases.

The Biopsychosocial Model and the Sex-Positive Approach: an Integrative Perspective for Sexology and General Health Care

Filippo Maria Nimbi et al.

Summary: Research has shown an increasing body of work on the Biopsychosocial model (BPS) and sex-positive frameworks over the past decade. However, a main limitation of the BPS is the lack of attention to socio-cultural factors involved in sexual expressions. The application of the sex-positive approach to the BPS model may bring more focus on individual needs, values, and desires, as well as provide new knowledge and understanding of sexuality in a broader spectrum, including diversities and pleasures.

Correlates of COVID-19 vaccination intentions: Attitudes, institutional trust, fear, conspiracy beliefs, and vaccine skepticism

Daniel Seddig et al.

Summary: Understanding the factors that influence people's vaccination intentions is crucial for successful campaigns against the COVID-19 pandemic. This study found that positive attitudes towards vaccination were associated with trust in science and fear of COVID-19, while negative attitudes were linked to acceptance of conspiracy theories and skepticism towards vaccines. Policymakers and healthcare providers should focus on promoting positive attitudes towards vaccination by highlighting the prevention of serious illness and death, rather than relying on social pressure or convenience.

Chloe Campbell et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a new self-report questionnaire ETMCQ and explores its psychometric properties, reliability, and validity. The findings suggest that mistrust and credulity are associated with childhood adversity, mental health symptoms, and attachment, partially mediating the link between early adversity and mental health problems. Additionally, the reduction of mistrust and credulity may be crucial in promoting resilience and the effectiveness of psychotherapeutic interventions.

HIV-related stigma in the UK then and now: to what extent are we on track to eliminate stigma? A qualitative investigation

Barbara Hedge et al.

Summary: Effective antiretroviral treatment in the late 1990s changed the perception of HIV as a manageable condition, but stigma remains a major barrier to healthcare access for people living with HIV. Current narratives on stigma focus on discrimination in healthcare settings, stigma among men who have sex with men, stigma towards African and Afro-Caribbean PLWH, and the limits of public knowledge and attitudes towards HIV. Despite a reduction in enacted stigma, there is still anticipation of discrimination and self-reported shame among certain groups, which may impact engagement in HIV care and prevention services.
