Virtual Reality in Health Science Education: Professors' Perceptions

Alvaro Anton-Sancho et al.

Summary: This article examines the evaluation of Latin American health science professors on the use of virtual reality technology in teaching, and identifies differences among universities. The results indicate that professors at private universities have a higher self-concept of their digital skills in virtual reality, and there are smaller gender and age gaps in private universities compared to public universities. It is recommended to increase faculty training and funding support, especially in public universities.

Virtual Reality in Medical Students' Education: Scoping Review

Haowen Jiang et al.

Summary: This scoping review mapped existing research on the use of VR in undergraduate medical education, showing widespread use of commercially available VR simulators for surgical training and anatomy education. However, there is limited evidence on the use of novel VR modalities and non-surgical/non-anatomical skills training, indicating the need for further exploration in these areas.

Role of Three-Dimensional Visualization Modalities in Medical Education

Ivy Bui et al.

Summary: Slide-based presentation has been the traditional method of content delivery in medical education, but in recent years, other three-dimensional visualization technologies such as 3D printed anatomical models, virtual reality, and augmented reality have been explored as supplements. These new technologies have their own advantages and limitations in medical education, warranting further research and discussion.

Effectiveness and Utility of Virtual Reality Simulation as an Educational Tool for Safe Performance of COVID-19 Diagnostics: Prospective, Randomized Pilot Trial

Tanja Birrenbach et al.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the short- and long-term effectiveness of a fully immersive VR simulation compared to traditional learning methods in training medical students on COVID-19 related skills and media-specific variables. The results showed that VR simulation was at least as effective as traditional methods while providing additional benefits in user satisfaction.

Augmented, Mixed, and Virtual Reality-Based Head-Mounted Devices for Medical Education: Systematic Review

Sandra Barteit et al.

Summary: This study systematically reviewed the effectiveness of AR, MR, and VR HMDs in medical education, finding that the majority of studies suggested beneficial effects of XR-based HMDs, although only a minority of studies were from LMICs. Results showed that XR-based HMDs at least achieved noninferior results when compared to conventional teaching and training.
