Let7b-5p inhibits insulin secretion and decreases pancreatic 13-cell mass in mice

He Ji et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated the critical role of let7b-5p in regulating the proliferation and insulin secretion of pancreatic 13-cells. Overexpression of let7b-5p impaired insulin production and secretion, resulting in impaired glucose tolerance in mice. The overexpressed let7b-5p inhibited pancreatic 13-cell proliferation and decreased the expression of cyclin D1 and cyclin D2.

Micro-RNA Implications in Type-1 Diabetes Mellitus: A Review of Literature

Kosmas Margaritis et al.

Summary: Type-1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is a well-defined metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia, with a growing incidence in children and adolescents. Recent discoveries of molecules like micro ribonucleic acids (miRNAs) and their interactions with T1DM have provided new insights into disease diagnosis. MiRNAs play a key role in T1DM pathogenesis by interfering with pancreatic b-cell function, insulin production and secretion, and are being studied as potential biomarkers for early diagnosis.
