Amelogenin-Derived Peptide (ADP-5) Hydrogel for Periodontal Regeneration: An In Vitro Study on Periodontal Cells Cytocompatibility, Remineralization and Inflammatory Profile

Nina Attik et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of a synthetic amelogenin-derived peptide (ADP-5) on periodontal cell behavior and compared it to a commercial gel Emdogain((R)). The findings showed that ADP-5 enhanced cell proliferation and remineralization, and the ADP-5 experimental hydrogel exhibited similar biological behavior to Emdogain((R)) in terms of cell colonization, mineralization, and inflammatory profile.

Alkali-Treated Alumina and Zirconia Powders Decorated with Hydroxyapatite for Prospective Biomedical Applications

Damian S. Nakonieczny et al.

Summary: In this study, the alumina and zirconia surfaces were pretreated with chemical etching and coated with Ca-deficient hydroxyapatite. The effects of etching bath conditions on the surface properties and chemical composition of medicinal ceramic powders were investigated. The results showed that different etchants had varying effects on the morphology of the ceramic surfaces. The aim of this study was to provide insights for the development of dental prosthetics.

Effects of Solvent and Electrospinning Parameters on the Morphology and Piezoelectric Properties of PVDF Nanofibrous Membrane

Jia-Yi Yin et al.

Summary: PVDF membranes with good morphology and high crystallinity were prepared using different solvents and electrospinning parameters. The piezoelectric properties of the membranes can be regulated by controlling the solvent dipole moment and process parameters. This study reports, for the first time, the influence of solvent dipole moment on the piezoelectric properties of electrospun materials.

Novel hydroxyapatite (HAP)-assisted hydrothermal solidification of heavy metals in fly ash from MSW incineration: Effect of HAP liquid-precursor and HAP seed crystal derived from eggshell waste

Haihang Tong et al.

Summary: Novel hydrothermal methods assisted by hydroxyapatite were used to solidify heavy metals in fly ash, resulting in hydrothermally-treated products that meet landfilling standards. The solidification mechanism involved the formation of stable compounds between hydroxyapatite and heavy metal ions. The addition of hydroxyapatite seed crystal improved the solidification efficiency.

Polymers for Melt Electrowriting

Juliane C. Kade et al.

Summary: Melt electrowriting (MEW) is a high-resolution additive manufacturing technique based on the electrohydrodynamic processing of polymers, primarily used for fabricating scaffolds in biomedical applications. In addition to the gold standard PCL, other polymers are also processed through MEW, including blends and coated fibers. Future developments focus on printer designs and expanding the range of processable polymers for MEW.

The recent advances in scaffolds for integrated periodontal regeneration

Hyun Nyun Woo et al.

Summary: The periodontium, composed of multiple tissues like cementum, periodontal ligament, and alveolar bone, surrounds and supports the tooth, but can be damaged by chronic periodontal disease leading to tooth loss. Various biomaterials have been used in the treatment of periodontally diseased teeth, with tissue engineering scaffolds being recently developed for the regeneration of damaged periodontal tissues. Technologies for scaffold fabrication have advanced in recent years, from supporting healing of single tissues to guiding integrated regeneration of the entire periodontium.
