Navigating power imbalances in landscape governance: a network and influence analysis in southern Zambia

Summary: Actors in integrated landscape approaches have different powers that affect decision-making. This paper analyzes power relations in southern Zambia and finds that actors exercise visible, hidden, or invisible power to influence decision-making. Power imbalances are the result of actors' social belongingness and histories. Integrated landscape approaches can help balance power, but a power analysis is needed to recognize differentials and include marginalized actors in decision-making.

Monitoring spatial-temporal variations of surface areas of small reservoirs in Ghana's Upper East Region using Sentinel-2 satellite imagery and machine learning

Summary: This study classified and analyzed the spatial-temporal variations of small reservoirs in the Upper East Region of Ghana using remote sensing and machine learning algorithms. The results showed that landscape positions have a significant impact on the size and water availability of small reservoirs. The study also revealed that these small reservoirs retain substantial amounts of water even at the end of the dry season, which can be utilized for irrigation purposes.

Analysing land use/land cover changes and its dynamics using remote sensing and GIS in Gubalafito district, Northeastern Ethiopia

Summary: This study used remote sensing and GIS techniques to analyze the changes in land use/land cover in the Gubalafto district of Northeastern Ethiopia over the past 30 years, and identified the main drivers of these changes. The results showed that cultivated and settlement areas were the most extensive land use type in the study area, increasing by 9% over the period. It also revealed a significant expansion of bush land and bare land areas, while grazing land and forest cover, which are environmentally important, decreased.

A place at the table is not enough: Accountability for Indigenous Peoples and local communities in multi-stakeholder platforms

Summary: Efforts to address global problems of land and resource use require multi-stakeholder collaboration. There is also a growing interest in including marginalized groups in decision-making, such as Indigenous Peoples, local communities, smallholders, and women. However, achieving equity in multi-stakeholder platforms and forums is challenging. This article presents a comparative study of 11 subnational multi-stakeholder platforms and forums in Brazil, Ethiopia, Indonesia, and Peru, analyzing the perspectives of Indigenous Peoples and local community participants on equity and the potential of these platforms. The findings suggest the need for greater attention to how marginalized groups perceive their participation in order to promote equality and accountability.

A survey on trade in wildlife parts in the Northern Region of Ghana

Summary: The faunal diversity of Ghana is under serious threat due to overexploitation of wildlife species. A study on trade in wildlife parts in the Northern region of Ghana revealed that middlemen were the main sources of wildlife supplies for traders. Endangered animal parts were found on display in the market, and wildlife species known for spreading zoonotic diseases were also present. The majority of respondents were aware of wildlife laws.

Envisioning the Future of Mosaic Landscapes: Actor Perceptions in a Mixed Cocoa/Oil-Palm Area in Ghana
