Does road accessibility to cities support rural population growth? Evidence for Portugal between 1991 and 2011

Patricia C. Melo et al.

Summary: Research in Portugal shows that rural population growth is negatively correlated with increased road distance and travel time, particularly towards medium-sized cities. There is no evidence of nonlinear effects of proximity to the urban hierarchy between accessible and remote rural areas.

Research on Spatio-Temporal Pattern Evolution and the Coupling Coordination Relationship of Land-Use Benefit from a Low-Carbon Perspective: A Case Study of Fujian Province

Daichao Li et al.

Summary: This paper studies Fujian Province, a national ecological civilization test area, and constructs a framework for land-use benefit evaluation and coupling coordination relationship analysis based on land-use structure from the low-carbon perspective. The results show that the coupling and coordination of land-use efficiency and benefits in different districts and counties of Fujian Province have been improving under the low-carbon development scenario. The economic benefit has the greatest influence on the coupling coordination of land-use efficiency.

Multi-objective urban land use optimization using spatial data: A systematic review

Md. Mostafizur Rahman et al.

Summary: Urban land use optimization is a promising approach to achieve sustainability, with objectives often centered around maximizing spatial compactness and land use compatibility. Common constraints include single land use in each cell, specific area limits for land use, and restrictions on land use change. The study highlights the significant contribution of Genetic Algorithm (GA) in solving urban land use optimization problems.

Geographical Information System (GIS) Based Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis for Categorization of the Villages: In the Case of Kabul New City Villages

Said Mustafa Habibi et al.

Summary: Kabul is undergoing the most powerful wave of urbanization in its history, facing critical urban problems. In response, the Kabul New City development committee was established in 2006 to plan for future urbanization. A method for categorizing villages was researched to provide a clear strategy for sustainable development by the government and urban planners.

Following Rural Functions to Classify Rural Sites: An Application in Jixi, Anhui Province, China

Kai Ren

Summary: Rural areas are self-organized regional living environments with attributes of function superposition, function difference, and dominant function. The evolution of rural functions follows the general law of self-organizing systems, gradually moving from general development to competition without rules, and finally to order controlled by the dominant function. The study in Jixi County's hilly area found that agricultural production functions, life and leisure functions, and ecological functions are high, while nonagricultural production functions are low; the interaction between different functions is crucial for determining the dominant functions of towns, and the coupling of characteristic village resources and town dominant functions results in nine types of characteristic villages.

Decision support framework to rank and prioritise the potential land areas for comprehensive land consolidation

Giedrius Pasakarnis et al.

Summary: This paper presents a set of key criteria and a multi-criteria analysis-based approach to rank and prioritize administrative regions for land consolidation implementation. Transparent identification and prioritization of regions will help ensure efficient resource management and fair allocation of financial support.
