URBAN FORM AND SPATIOTEMPORAL VULNERABILITY OF LOCAL COMMUNITIES TO COVID-19

Summary: This paper examines the spatiotemporal dynamics of the impact of urban form on the spread of Covid-19 in local communities in Salt Lake County, Utah, United States. The study identifies three types of communities: minority, traditional urban and suburban, and new suburban, and three stages: initial, outbreak, and recovery stages. The findings show that minority communities are severely affected in the initial and outbreak stages, while remote suburban communities are primarily affected in the outbreak and recovery stages. High-density urban land use is the main factor contributing to the spread of the disease, and factors such as street connectivity and land use mixture play a role in the local spread during different stages. The study highlights the importance of compact development in building urban resilience and suggests that proper planning and policies can mitigate the potential adverse effects of pandemics.

Unveiling the Regional Differences and Convergence of Urban Sprawl in China, 2006-2019

Summary: There is an imbalanced regional development in eastern, central, and western China, and it is a crucial problem for policy makers and planners to address. This study used the urban sprawl index (USI) to examine the spatiotemporal pattern of urban sprawl from 2006 to 2019 and its regional differences and convergence among the three regions. The findings show that there are clear geographical patterns in the distribution of high, medium, and low sprawl cities in the east and west, while the central region does not exhibit intuitive geographical features. Additionally, there is a downward trend in urban sprawl in all three regions, but the process is fluctuating and shows distinct phase characteristics. It can be concluded that there is a convergence trend in urban sprawl in China over the research period, and the club convergence effect exists in the eastern, central, and western regions.

Assessment of urban sprawls, amenities, and indifferences of LST and AOD in sub-urban area: a case study of Jammu

Relationship Between Population Urbanization and Urban Sprawl Across Different City Sizes in China
