Exploring the associations between neighborhood greenness and level of physical activity of older adults in shanghai

Yang Xiao et al.

Summary: This research examines the relationship between neighborhood green spaces and physical activity in older adults, finding that green spaces have a positive impact on encouraging physical activity. However, factors such as health condition and socioeconomic characteristics have a stronger influence on the amount of physical activity undertaken by older individuals.

The Associations of Built Environment with Older People Recreational Walking and Physical Activity in a Chinese Small-Scale City of Yiwu

Jiabin Yu et al.

Summary: This study found that factors such as residential density, aesthetics, and street connectivity in the built environment can affect the levels of recreational walking and recreational physical activity in older people. Lower residential density, better aesthetics environment, and higher street connectivity encourage older adults to engage more in physical activity.

Green Space and Physical Activity in China: A Systematic Review

Jing Shen et al.

Summary: Scientific evidence in China shows that proximity and access to green spaces are associated with increased physical activity levels among residents, while the association between overall greenness exposure and physical activity remains limited. Further experimental studies are needed to establish more robust evidence of the causality between green spaces and physical activity in China. Future research is also warranted to investigate the underlying mechanisms and differential impacts of green spaces on population subgroups in China.

The pathways linking objectively-measured greenspace exposure and mental health: A systematic review of observational studies

Ru Zhang et al.

Summary: This study systematically reviewed the current evidence on the pathways linking objectively measured greenspace exposure and mental health, highlighting key mediating mechanisms such as air quality, perceived stress, and physical activity. However, the mediating role of social cohesion remains mixed and inconclusive. Future research is recommended to focus on well-designed longitudinal and experimental studies to establish causal relationships.
