Potentially Inadequate Medications in the Elderly: PRISCUS 2.0

Nina -Kristin Mann et al.

Summary: The PRISCUS list, published in 2010, is a catalogue of potentially inadequate medication (PIM) for the elderly in the German drug market. In a three-round Delphi process, experts evaluated and expanded the list to include 187 substances. The new PRISCUS list should now be validated and its feasibility in routine use verified.

Assessing the quality of evidence on safety: specifications for application and suggestions for adaptions of the GRADE-criteria in the context of preparing a list of potentially inappropriate medications for older adults

Tim Mathes et al.

Summary: This article describes the specifications and adaptions of the GRADE system for grading the quality of evidence on safety outcomes, which were developed in the context of preparing a PIM-list. The proof-of-concept application showed that the suggested modifications were effective in reflecting the different methodological quality of safety outcomes.

Trends and patterns in EU(7)-PIM prescribing to elderly patients in Germany

Iva Selke Krulichova et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the patterns and long-term development of prescribing potentially inappropriate medications to elderly patients in Germany. The results showed a reduction in the prevalence of EU(7)-PIM from 2009 to 2019, with factors such as polypharmacy, gender, age, and region being associated with PIM prescribing. Prescriber specialty was found to be the most significant factor in the analysis.

Anticholinergic burden measures and older people's falls risk: a systematic prognostic review

Carrie Stewart et al.

Summary: The studies found that moderate to high users of anticholinergic medications had a higher risk of falling, but it was less clear if lower burden users had an increased risk. Due to limited studies, it is currently unknown which scale is better than another.
