Probability that there is a mammalian counterpart of cardiac clock in insects

Sodikdjon A. Kodirov

Summary: Whether the hyperpolarization-activated cyclic nucleotide-gated nonselective cation channel is involved in pacemaking or not, it plays a role in electrical activities of all excitable cells. While the electrical signals and function of the heart in invertebrates have been elucidated, the involvement of the cardiac clock mechanism in pacemaking is not definitive in simpler models like insects. This assay aims to compare insect and mammalian hearts to understand the mechanisms of heartbeat.

Inactivation of Native K Channels

Sodikdjon A. Kodirov et al.

Summary: In experiments with isolated cardiomyocytes of the mollusk Helix, a significant decrease in amplitude of K+ currents was observed during repeated voltage steps at 0.96 Hz. This trend persisted even in the presence of 4-aminopyridine, tetraethylammonium chloride or E-4031, a selective antiarrhythmic agent. Additionally, the outward current activated by a voltage ramp at 60 mV x s(-1) rate exhibited an inward rectification around + 20 mV, closely resembling the mammalian cardiac delayed rectifier I-Kr.
