The present study focused on fabrication of novel sponge by blending natural polymer gum kondagogu (GK) with gelatin (G) which has not been explored so far. The fabricated sponge was characterized by swelling %, porosity, SEM and showed that sponge is porous in nature. TGA showed blended GK-G sponge has good thermal stability and functional group was confirmed by FTIR. Moreover, Sponge was impregnated with ciprofloxacin (CP) drug and shows 95% drug release in 48 h. The in vitro biocompatibility, cell adhesion and proliferation were done using NIH 3T3 fibroblast and Human keratinocytes cell lines, and result showed that sponge is highly biocompatible. CP loaded sponge was evaluated against S. aureus and E. coli and it showed good antimicrobial activities. In conclusion, it could be used as a potential biomaterial for wound dressing.
