The genomic basis of sporadic and recurrent pregnancy loss: a comprehensive in-depth analysis of 24,900 miscarriages

Jenna Finley et al.

Summary: This study investigated the genetic causes of both sporadic and recurrent pregnancy loss and the role of chromosomal abnormalities. The results revealed that the majority of cases were sporadic miscarriages, with clinically significant abnormalities observed in 55.8% of the samples. Autosomal trisomies were the most common abnormality, followed by polyploidy and large segmental imbalances. Analysis of sequential samples provided valuable insights into predispositions for recurrent pregnancy loss.

Monosomy X in isogenic human iPSC-derived trophoblast model impacts expression modules preserved in human placenta

Darcy T. Ahern et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of monosomy X on syncytiotrophoblast development in humans using X-monosomic human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs). The results suggest that monosomy X may alter the levels of placental genes and secretion of placental growth factor (PlGF) and human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). The findings also demonstrate that the corresponding gene coexpression network modules are preserved in chorionic villi and term placenta.

Comprehensive analysis of early pregnancy loss based on cytogenetic findings from a tertiary referral center

Xiaoqing Wu et al.

Summary: This study conducted cytogenetic analysis of 1252 products of conception from spontaneous pregnancy loss and found that the frequencies and profiles of chromosomal abnormalities were strongly associated with maternal age, previous miscarriage, live birth history, and mode of conception. It is recommended to perform cytogenetic analysis of products of conception in women with a first miscarriage and in women with normal live birth history.

Chromosomal Aneuploidy Associated With Clinical Characteristics of Pregnancy Loss

Chongjuan Gu et al.

Summary: Maternal age above 35 and gestational age less than 11 weeks are associated with higher rates of chromosomal aneuploidy. Sex chromosome abnormalities and triploid are more likely in younger women. Presence of yolk sac or embryo is correlated with higher rates of aneuploidy.
