Precision drugging of the MAPK pathway in head and neck cancer

Hoi-Lam Ngan et al.

Summary: The MAPK pathway plays a central role in cell proliferation, differentiation and senescence. Defects in this pathway can contribute to developmental and congenital head and neck disorders in humans, and a significant portion of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma cases have MAPK pathway mutations. Recent clinical evidence suggests that targeted therapies can be effective in treating these patients, and there is also potential for precision immunotherapy based on the effects of MAPK aberrations on immune cell recruitment.

Epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition in oral squamous cell carcinoma: Challenges and opportunities

Zihang Ling et al.

Summary: Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the most common malignancy in global oral cancer, with a low survival rate due to tumor metastasis and recurrence. Epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) plays a key role in tumor metastasis and has attracted significant attention. Further research on the role of EMT in OSCC may provide novel insights for developing strategies to combat this type of cancer.

Identification of potential biomarkers associated with poor prognosis in oral squamous cell carcinoma through integrated bioinformatics analysis: A pilot study

Zeynab Bayat et al.

Summary: The study identified 35 differentially expressed miRNAs in oral squamous cell carcinoma patients with poor prognosis. Pathways and biological processes related to ubiquitination and RNA splicing were affected in the poor prognosis group. Aberrant expression of 22 hub genes was significantly associated with worse overall survival in patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma.

MicroRNA 617 Targeting SERPINE1 Inhibited the Progression of Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Chunguang Zhao et al.

Summary: It has been discovered that SERPINE1 is highly expressed in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and exerts oncogenic effects through a mechanism mediated by miR-617. The miR-617/SERPINE1 axis may serve as a potential therapeutic target for OSCC.

Clinical relevance of circulating activin A and follistatin in small cell lung cancer

Nandor Barany et al.

Summary: In patients with small cell lung cancer (SCLC), elevated levels of circulating activin A (ActA) are correlated with disease stage, and high plasma ActA concentration may serve as a useful predictor for prognosis in these patients. However, circulating follistatin (FST) levels do not show a significant association with disease stage or overall survival in SCLC.
