Summary: This study systematically reviews the literature on the application of driverless technologies in civil engineering, particularly in the highways infrastructure sector, and provides insights into the limitations and challenges facing the adoption of these technologies. By adopting a mixed philosophical methodological approach, the study presents emergent themes from literature analysis and practitioner feedback, leading to the development of a conceptual model to further elucidate the barriers in the highways infrastructure sector.

Summary: This study aims to examine the barriers to green city development in developing countries. A study conducted in Ghana indicates that barriers to green city development include lack of awareness of the benefits of a green city, environmental degradation, insufficient policy implementation efforts, excessive generation of solid waste, and poor wastewater treatment. This study provides insights into the barriers hindering green city development and suggests incorporating the concept of green cities in the education and training of stakeholders to improve awareness.

Summary: This research explores the failure of competitively tendered projects in the UK construction industry to procure the most suited contractor(s) to conduct the works. It seeks to improve future practice through the development of a novel alternative procurement option (i.e., negotiation) and highlights the importance of understanding the scope of works allowed within a tender submission before discounting it based solely on price. The study combines interpretivism to critically review literature and pragmatism to analyze perceptions of tendering and procurement, presenting new contemporary insights into procurement and tendering in the construction industry, with emphasis on SME contractors, existing relationships, and open-book negotiation.

Summary: This study aims to identify the challenges in financing renewable energy in Ghana, with economic, commercial, and regulatory barriers being the major impediments. Long payback periods, limited track record, and high upfront costs are the most severe obstacles. Developing targeted policies to mitigate investor disincentives can facilitate investment in renewable energy to help Ghana reach its 10% renewable energy target.

Summary: The research found that the roles and responsibilities of the quantity surveyor in the value management workshop process have not received enough academic attention. Limited information on workshop content has resulted in ineffective studies, leading to miscommunication among construction practitioners. A novel template has been created to identify workshop content and the roles of quantity surveyors and other construction professionals for educational purposes.
