Pausing the Pandemic: Understanding and Managing Traveler and Community Spread of COVID-19 in Hawaii

Summary: In the absence of a vaccine, nonpharmaceutical interventions were crucial in slowing the spread of COVID-19. This study analyzed survey data from Hawaii to investigate the differences between traveler spreaders and community spreaders at the onset of the pandemic. The study identified demographic attributes and developed models explaining travel behaviors, as well as mapping high-risk clusters using spatial statistics.

Small Business and Livelihood: A Study of Pashupatinath UNESCO Heritage Site of Nepal

Summary: Small businesses in world heritage sites play a vital role in providing services to visitors and supporting the livelihoods of residents. This study examines the socioeconomic impacts of businesses around the Pashupatinath temple, finding that larger businesses selling religious supplies have a positive correlation with house ownership and business satisfaction in Kathmandu. Additionally, businesses without permanent stalls faced significant challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Segmentation of Religious Tourism by Motivations: A Study of the Pilgrimage to the City of Mecca

Summary: This study investigates the motivational dimensions and segments of the demand for religious tourism through surveys of pilgrims who had visited Mecca. The results reveal three motivational dimensions: religious, social and cultural, and shopping, and three segments of demand: Multiple motives, Passive tourists, and Religious. The Multiple motives and Religious segments exhibit high levels of satisfaction and loyalty. These findings provide guidance for the management of religious destinations and contribute to the academic literature on this subject.
