Hydrogen permeability of thermoplastic composites and liner systems for future mobility applications

Summary: High pressure hydrogen permeation tests were conducted to measure the specific permeation rates of different thermoplastic matrix materials and continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastic composites (PA6, PA12, PA410, PPA, PPS), including non-crimp and crimp textile architectures. The influence of EVOH liners on the permeation rate of PA6 composites was also investigated. Results showed that thermoplastic composites can achieve low permeation rates with a damage-free microstructure. EVOH layers exhibit remarkable barrier properties and can be easily integrated into the composite structure.
