Continuous removal of Basic Red 46 from aqueous solutions using modified Portland cement in column study

M. H. Rasoulifard et al.

Summary: This study investigated the continuous removal of BR46 dye pollutant using modified adsorbents of hardened rings made from Portland cement. Results demonstrated that increasing contact time and percentage of modifier enhanced BR46 removal, while increasing flow rate and concentration of BR46 decreased removal efficiency. Langmuir, Freundlich, and Temkin isotherm models were used for data analysis, with the first-order kinetic model fitting well with the experimental data. The modified adsorbents were efficient for BR46 removal.

Assessment of heavy metal and physico-chemical pollution loadings of River Benue water at Makurdi using water quality index (WQI) and multivariate statistics

Raphael Terungwa Iwar et al.

Summary: The quality of River Benue water at Makurdi was assessed using water quality index (WQI) and multivariate statistical tools, revealing parameters such as colour, turbidity, total suspended solids, nickel, lead, and cadmium exceeding allowable limits. High cadmium and lead pollution levels were identified as major influences. Continuous pollution monitoring and local regulations are recommended to reduce pollution sources entering the river.

Assessment and distribution of water quality of Pandoh river basin (PRB), Himachal Pradesh, North India

C. Prakasam et al.

Summary: The surface water in northern India serves as the main water resource for the region, but faces serious water pollution issues due to poor water quality. Current study focuses on evaluating the quality of surface water in the Pandoh river basin, which is found to have an alkaline nature with moderately hard characteristics. Further research is needed for a better understanding of water quality in northern India.

Simultaneous removal of heavy metals from drinking water by banana, orange and potato peel beads: a study of biosorption kinetics

Risha Jasmine Nathan et al.

Summary: In this study, biosorbent beads immobilized with banana, orange, and potato peels were used for the biosorption of heavy metals from a cocktail solution. The beads exhibited significant biosorption capacity for As and Pb, but decreased significantly for Cd, Cu, Hg, and Ni ions at basic pH values in drinking water conditions. The effectiveness of biosorption was influenced by the surface heterogeneity and concentration of the biosorbent beads, with banana peel beads showing the highest biosorption efficiency.

Evaluation of alkaline-based activated carbon from Leucaena Leucocephala produced at different activation temperatures for cadmium adsorption

Wan Muhammad Hilmi Wan Ibrahim et al.

Summary: The study successfully reduced the cost of raw materials and obtained a higher surface area by producing activated carbon from Leucaena leucocephala biomass. Regardless of the activation temperature used, the activated carbon produced is applicable to the Langmuir isotherm. Thermodynamic study revealed that the adsorption process is endothermic.
