The formation of explosive volcanos at the circum-Pacific convergent margin during the last century

Fanfan Tian et al.

Summary: The circum-Pacific convergent margin, known as the Ring of Fire, experiences frequent volcano eruptions, where large eruptions are rare but highly destructive. The formation of large explosive volcanos and identification of danger zones remain unclear. Recent studies have found that the three largest eruptions since 1900 were associated with subductions of volatile-rich sediments and located close to slab windows.

Timing and mechanisms of Tibetan Plateau uplift

Lin Ding et al.

Summary: This review discusses the temporal and spatial distribution of surface uplift in the Tibetan Plateau and the geodynamic mechanisms behind it. The initial collision between India and Asia and the subsequent formation of the high Tibetan Plateau are still not well understood, but the uplift is primarily controlled by delamination and break-off of the subducted Indian and Asian lithosphere.

Why 'the uplift of the Tibetan Plateau' is a myth

Robert A. Spicer et al.

Summary: The uplift of the Tibetan Plateau was not solely caused by the collision and northward movement of India, but rather a complex process involving the collision of several Gondwanan terranes with Asia during the Mesozoic. New synthetic views incorporating Earth system modeling, paleoaltimetry proxies, and fossil finds help reveal the true topographic evolution of Tibet.

Basalt derived from highly refractory mantle sources during early Izu-Bonin-Mariana arc development

He Li et al.

Summary: The early Izu-Bonin-Mariana system is characterized by low-Ti-K tholeiitic basalts and boninites, with ASB basalts being distinct from other basalts due to their hot, reduced upper mantle source and preservation of polybaric-polythermal mineralogy during rapid ascent to the surface.

Summary: By analyzing magmatic activity in Tibet, researchers have suggested that the India-Asia collision was the primary driver of atmospheric CO2 variations during the Cenozoic era.
