Analysing the impact of COVID-19 risk perceptions on route choice behaviour in train networks

Sanmay Shelat et al.

Summary: This study assesses the impact of COVID-19 risk perception on public transport route choices based on a survey of train passengers in the Netherlands. The results indicate that on-board crowding and infection rates are the most important factors influencing risk perception, and the vulnerability of family and friends has a larger impact than personal health risk. Moreover, it is found that individuals taking longer train trips are more concerned about risk.

Quantifying travellers' evaluation of waiting time uncertainty in public transport networks

Sanmay Shelat et al.

Summary: Studying travellers' route choice behavior under waiting time uncertainty and measuring the premium they are willing to pay for certainty can help better understand traveler preferences and behavior. Research findings show that travellers are willing to trade off in-vehicle time for waiting time certainty, with younger travellers seeking more certainty.

Predictive decision support platform and its application in crowding prediction and passenger information generation

Peyman Noursalehi et al.

Summary: The demand for public transport has been steadily increasing in densely populated cities, but capacity has not kept up, resulting in longer wait times and denied boarding for passengers. The COVID-19 pandemic has decreased passengers' willingness to board crowded trains, leading to a surge in demand for real-time crowding information. Providing predictive information to passengers has the potential to reduce denied boarding and improve train capacity utilization.

Bus passenger path choices after consulting ubiquitous real-time information

Md Faqhrul Islam et al.

Summary: The study shows that URTPI has an impact on bus passenger path choice, with changes in departure and boarding times being the most popular actions taken. This can potentially alter the demand distribution for bus runs and lines, advocating for transport planners and operators to consider the impact of URTPI for better predictions of PT demand distribution.

Public transport planning adaption under the COVID-19 pandemic crisis: literature review of research needs and directions

Konstantinos Gkiotsalitis et al.

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic crisis has significantly affected public transport ridership and service provision worldwide. New planning requirements have been developed to reduce service capacity compared to the pre-pandemic period. This literature review aims to identify the impacts of COVID-19 on public transport and the existing planning methods, as well as intervention measures to support service providers in the post-shutdown phase.
