Self-guided online treatment of disturbed grief, posttraumatic stress, and depression in adults bereaved during the COVID-19 pandemic: A randomized controlled trial

L. Reitsma et al.

Summary: This randomized-waitlist controlled trial examined the short-term effects of an online grief-specific cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) on early persistent complex bereavement disorder (PCBD), posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and depression symptoms in adults bereaved during the COVID-19 pandemic. The results showed that the intervention group had significantly lower symptom levels of PCBD, PTSD, and depression post-treatment compared to the waitlist control group. This indicates that online CBT is an effective intervention for reducing these symptoms in distressed bereaved individuals.

Valid measurement of DSM-5 persistent complex bereavement disorder and DSM-5-TR and ICD-11 prolonged grief disorder: The Traumatic Grief Inventory-Self Report Plus (TGI-SR plus )

L. I. M. Lenferink et al.

Summary: The study examined the psychometric properties of a new self-report measure, TGI-SR+, for assessing criteria sets of DSM-5 PCBD, DSM-5-TR PGD, and ICD-11 PGD. Results showed good internal consistency, temporal stability, and validity, supporting TGI-SR+ as a reliable measure for assessing grief symptoms. Optimal clinical cut-offs for probable cases of DSM-5 PCBD, DSM-5-TR PGD, and ICD-11 PGD were identified.

Summary: This study investigated the psychometric properties of the PTSD Checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5) in first responders seeking treatment for PTSD. The results showed that PCL-5 scores had strong internal consistency and validity, with a recommended cutoff score of 41 for detecting PTSD. Confirmatory factor analyses suggested that the anhedonia model of PTSD best fit the data, supporting the use of PCL-5 as a reliable measure of PTSD in high-risk individuals.
