A common selection mechanism at each linguistic level in bilingual and monolingual language production

Esti Blanco-Elorrieta et al.

Summary: The primary goal of research on the functional and neural architecture of bilingualism is to elucidate how bilingual individuals' language architecture is organized for them to speak in single language without accidental insertions of the other, but also switch between languages flexibly. The proposed architecture assumes a common selection principle at each linguistic level to account for features of bilingual speech.

Preparing to Switch Languages Versus Preparing to Switch Tasks: Which Is More Effective?

Bronte Graham et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that preparation for task switches is more effective than preparation for language switches in bilinguals. Bilinguals showed a more significant reduction in reaction time task switch costs compared to language switch costs with increasing cue-stimulus interval.

Summary: This study found that among bilinguals, the interference suppression component of domain-general executive functions facilitates local level language control, while response inhibition impacts global level language control.
