Intimate partner violence against adolescent girls and young women and its association with miscarriages, stillbirths and induced abortions in sub-Saharan Africa: Evidence from demographic and health surveys

Summary: In 25 sub-Saharan African countries, intimate partner violence and pregnancy termination among adolescent girls and young women were found to have a significant association. The odds of pregnancy termination were higher among those who had ever experienced intimate partner violence, emphasizing the importance of addressing violence in efforts to reduce pregnancy termination rates among this demographic.

Sexual and Reproductive Health Outcomes of Violence Against Women and Girls in Lower-Income Countries: A Review of Reviews

Summary: Research on adolescent girls and young women in low- and middle-income countries shows that gender-based violence leads to negative outcomes such as more sexual partners, gynecological conditions, unwanted pregnancies, and abortions. Some types of violence are also linked to increased use of contraception and STI prevention measures. Addressing gender-based violence is crucial to improving sexual and reproductive health for women and girls in LMICs.
