Predicting Abusive Behaviours in Spanish Adolescents' Relationships: Insights from the Reasoned Action Approach

Ainara Nardi-Rodriguez et al.

Summary: This study applied the reasoned action approach (RAA) to predict adolescents' performance and acceptance of abusive behaviors. The results showed that perceived social norms emerged as a relevant predictor and could be intervened to produce behavioral changes.

Associations of attitudes and social norms with experiences of intimate partner violence among married adolescents and their husbands in rural Niger: a dyadic cross-sectional study

Holly Baker Shakya et al.

Summary: The attitudes of both men and women towards intimate partner violence (IPV) are predictive of women's experience of IPV, although the relationship can vary by context. Social norms also play a role in perpetration and reporting of IPV, with community beliefs and gender norms influencing individuals' behaviors.

Suitability of Measurement Tools for Assessing the Prevalence of Child Domestic Work: A Rapid Systematic Review

Nicola S. Pocock et al.

Summary: Child domestic work (CDW) is a hidden form of child labor that has been understudied. More sensitive, task-based methods are recommended for better inclusion of CDWs in household surveys. Researchers should also consider the possibility of CDWs being disguised as distant or non-relatives in their analyses.

Weighing Risk Factors for Adolescent Victimization in the Context of Romantic Relationship Initiation

Rosaura Gonzalez-Mendez et al.

Summary: Research has focused little on the association between relational context characteristics and teen dating violence (TDV) among adolescents initiating romantic relationships. This study explored different risks in the relational context of Spanish female teenagers and their TDV victimization, revealing that highly victimized girls are more likely to have deviant peers and face pressure to date, while high parental monitoring only effectively prevents TDV in low-risk contexts.

Beliefs About Sexual Intimate Partner Violence Perpetration Among Adolescents in South Africa

Katri Pollanen et al.

Summary: The study found that in Grade 8 adolescents in the Western Cape Province of South Africa, boys were more likely to be perpetrators and victims of sexual IPV compared to girls. Boys had more supportive attitudes toward perpetrating sexual IPV, lower self-efficacy in refraining from pressuring partners for sex, and perceived their social networks to be more accepting of pressuring partners. Both boys and girls who perpetrated sexual IPV showed more tolerant attitudes, social influence, and self-efficacy beliefs toward perpetration.

Mediating Factors Explaining the Association Between Sexual Minority Status and Dating Violence

Alexa Martin-Storey et al.

Summary: Dating violence poses a serious threat to individual health and well-being, especially for sexual minority individuals, such as bisexuals, who may be at a higher risk compared to heterosexuals. Discrimination plays a crucial role in explaining the vulnerability to dating violence among sexual minority individuals, particularly bisexuals, while other factors like number of sexual partners and alcohol use do not significantly explain the vulnerability compared to heterosexual peers.
