Higher heart rate variability as a predictor of atrial fibrillation in patients with hypertension

San Ha Kim et al.

Summary: Excessive autonomic fluctuation represented by higher heart rate variability (HRV) is associated with an increased risk of atrial fibrillation (AF) in hypertensive patients.

Cardiac Remodeling in the Absence of Cardiac Contractile Dysfunction Is Sufficient to Promote Cancer Progression

Lama Awwad et al.

Summary: Cardiovascular diseases and cancer are the leading causes of death worldwide, and they have a high co-prevalence and mutual influence. Recent studies suggest that heart failure may promote cancer progression, but whether cardiac remodeling without cardiac contractile dysfunction can promote cancer progression remains uncertain. In this study, using a mouse model, it was found that low-dose PE infusion can promote tumor growth and is associated with abundant secretion of cardiac and tumor factors. Therefore, early detection and treatment of hypertension may benefit the prognosis of cancer patients.

Mouse Models of Hepatocellular Carcinoma: Classification, Advancement, and Application

Sha Liu et al.

Summary: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common subtype of liver cancer, and validating medical clinical trials in animal models is necessary. Mouse models are commonly used and effective in studying HCC, with several different models developed. Choosing the appropriate model depends on the purpose of the experiments.

Differential cardiotoxic electrocardiographic response to doxorubicin treatment in conscious versus anesthetized mice

Anna Warhol et al.

Summary: The study revealed that the effects of doxorubicin on ECG are modulated by anesthesia and show significant differences between sexes, particularly in female mice. HRV in mice treated with DOX20 was increased compared to saline-treated mice, indicating an increased susceptibility to arrhythmias.

Resting Heart Rate and Risk of Cancer Mortality

Leidys Gutierrez-Martinez et al.

Summary: The study found that a resting heart rate (RHR) of >= 80 beats/minute is associated with an increased risk of overall cancer mortality. High cardiorespiratory fitness may help lower the risk of cancer mortality among those with high RHR. The combination of RHR and CRF can provide valuable information about an individual's cancer mortality risk.

Atrial cholangiocarcinoma diagnosed by cardiac magnetic resonance imaging

Alexander Marschall et al.

Summary: This case report highlights the diagnostic workup of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) tumor thrombus with right atrial (RA) invasion using cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (cMRI). The comprehensive cMRI evaluation allowed for the diagnosis of ICC tumor thrombus with RA invasion, showcasing the usefulness of cMRI in the diagnostic approach of RA masses suggestive of tumor thrombus.

Fully implantable and bioresorbable cardiac pacemakers without leads or batteries

Yeon Sik Choi et al.

Summary: A biodegradable pacemaker without external leads has been developed to improve the safety of temporary cardiac pacing. This fully implantable pacemaker can control cardiac rate and rhythm postoperatively before dissolving completely. Tested in various animal and human models, this approach overcomes key disadvantages of traditional temporary pacing devices.
