Cost-effectiveness analysis of compressed natural gas implementation in the public bus transit fleet in Delhi, India

Christian Krelling et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the emissions impacts and cost-effectiveness of CNG and diesel buses in Delhi and the Indian context. The results show that CNG buses significantly reduce emissions in the early 2000s, but may not have better cost-effectiveness ratios compared to cleaner diesel buses. However, in the period of 2010-2015, the emission reductions and cost-effectiveness of CNG buses were worse. Allowing only CNG buses to operate in Delhi in the early 2000s was an effective policy choice for mitigating local air pollution.

Characterization of the UHI in Zaragoza (Spain) using a quality-controlled hourly sensor-based urban climate network

Samuel Barrao et al.

Summary: The study characterizes the urban heat island (UHI) in Zaragoza, Spain, and reveals its typical center-periphery pattern with an intensity of around 2 degrees Celsius. Seasonal variations in UHI were also observed. The study emphasizes the importance of considering urban structure and climatic characteristics when planning cities.

Cost-benefit analysis of transport projects: Theoretical framework and practical rules

Gines de Rus et al.

Summary: The economic appraisal of transport projects is typically based on calculations involving time, cost, and quality factors. This paper presents a method for evaluating economic effects and proposes an alternative approach based on changes in surplus to avoid common pitfalls and double counting.

Valuing the impacts of forest disturbances on ecosystem services: An examination of recreation and climate regulation services in U.S. national forests

Jose J. Sanchez et al.

Summary: The increasing frequency and severity of forest disturbances have led to significant social, economic, and environmental costs, with recent droughts causing annual losses of approximately $73 million, $36 million, and $15 million for Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, Tahoe, and Inyo National Forests, respectively. Tree biomass loss due to wildfires and bark beetle damage resulted in around 10 Mt CO2 emissions, with estimated social costs of $0.8 million for fire and $2.4 million for bark beetle. Our findings suggest that adaptation and management strategies are needed to protect the health and function of publicly managed forests and their flow of ecosystem services.
