Does Adoption of Climate Change Adaptation Strategy Improve Food Security? A Case of Rice Farmers in Ogun State, Nigeria

Temitope Oluwaseun Ojo et al.

Summary: The southwestern part of Nigeria, particularly Ogun State, is vulnerable to climate change. This study examined the factors influencing climate change adaptation strategies and its impacts on household food security among smallholder rice farmers in Ogun State. The results showed that adopters of climate change adaptation techniques had higher levels of food security. Access to market information, access to extension agents, gender, off-farm income, and membership in cooperatives all contributed to the variations in food security.

Determinants of adoption of multiple sustainable agricultural practices among smallholder farmers in Nigeria

Zainab Oyetunde-Usman et al.

Summary: This study examines the factors influencing the adoption of Sustainable Agricultural Practices (SAPs) in Nigeria using data from the 2015 General Household Survey, finding that adoption rates depend significantly on factors such as age of household head, gender, education, household size, access to extension services, and household wealth status. The results suggest that policymakers should focus on maintaining or increasing household asset bases and encouraging training programs to promote the adoption of SAPs.

Youth Participation in Agriculture: A Scoping Review

Wendy Geza et al.

Summary: Providing economic opportunities for youth in agriculture is crucial for addressing poverty, unemployment, and inequality in Africa, but existing agricultural interventions are production-centric, offer low income, and lack social protection. As a result, young people hold pessimistic views towards agriculture, and current agricultural development programs fail to address structural issues hindering youth participation. Specific policies are needed to promote meaningful youth involvement in shaping future food systems through context-specific agricultural-based interventions.
