Efficient synthesis of sulfones and sulfoxides from sulfides by cobalt-based Schiff complex supported on nanocellulose as catalyst and Oxone as the terminal oxidant

Reza Sandaroos et al.

Summary: The support of Schiff base catalysts on solid substrates, especially biocompatible ones, has become more important due to their incredible growth in chemical syntheses. In this study, cobalt-based Schiff catalysts were immobilized on nanocellulose and characterized by FT-IR, H NMR, EDX, and SEM. Among these catalysts, the one with a crown ether substitute showed superior catalytic activity for oxidation of sulfides. It is noteworthy that these catalysts can be recycled multiple times without losing efficiency.

A crowned manganese-based Schiff complex supported on nanocellulose as an efficient and sustainable heterogeneous catalyst for the oxidation of benzyl alcohols

Behrooz Maleki et al.

Summary: In this study, a Schiff-base-manganese complex containing a crown ether was synthesized and immobilized on nanocellulose (MnL2@nanocellulose) for catalytic oxidation of benzyl alcohols. Characterization techniques including FT-IR, H-NMR, EDX, UV-Vis, microanalysis (CHN and ICP) and SEM were used. Compared to the analogue without crown ether (MnL1@nanocellulose), MnL2@nanocellulose exhibited better catalytic activity despite having a lower Mn content. (c) 2023 Elsevier B.V. Aldehyde-catalyzed epoxidation of unactivated alkenes with aqueous hydrogen peroxide

Ierasia Triandafillidi et al.

Summary: The organocatalytic epoxidation of unactivated alkenes using aqueous hydrogen peroxide provides essential products and intermediates in a sustainable manner. A specific atropisomeric two-axis aldehyde was identified for high-yielding epoxidations of cyclic and acyclic alkenes, resulting in high catalytic efficiencies due to the proximity of the aldehyde and backbone residues. Mechanistic studies suggest a non-radical alkene oxidation by an aldehyde-derived dioxirane intermediate generated from hydrogen peroxide through the Payne and Criegee intermediates.
