Silk nanoparticles for the protection and delivery of guava leaf (Psidium guajava L.) extract for cosmetic industry, a new approach for an old herb

Duy Toan Pham et al.

Summary: This study investigated the ability of silk fibroin nanoparticles (SFNs) to encapsulate, deliver, and heat-protect the phenolic compounds of guava leaves ethanolic extract. The SFNs successfully encapsulated the extract and preserved its antioxidant activity, demonstrating their potential in protecting other natural compounds from environmental factors.

Proteomic Analysis of Silk Fibroin Reveals Diverse Biological Function of Different Degumming Processing From Different Origin

Yaling Wang et al.

Summary: Silk, as a natural fibrin, has been used to create various biomaterials due to its excellent biocompatibility and mechanical properties. This study investigated the effects of different degumming treatments on silk fibroin properties and the impact of silk fibroin membranes on the growth of Schwann cells. The results showed that silk from Zhejiang treated with 0.05% Na2CO3 solution had a better structure and protein composition, while silk fibroin obtained by degumming with 0.5% Na2CO3 solution was more beneficial for cell adhesion and proliferation. This study provides important theoretical and experimental foundations for selecting biomaterials for artificial nerve grafts.

Fibroin-coated poly( ethylenimine)-docusate nanoparticles as a novel drug delivery system

Duy Toan Pham et al.

Summary: This study aimed to develop and characterize novel PEI-based nanoparticles with reduced surface charge by complexation with a negatively charged compound. Among the candidates, DO yielded the best results, and further coating the nanoparticles with fibroin significantly reduced the surface charge. The developed system showed enhanced drug loading capacity and demonstrated reduced hematotoxicity, suggesting its potential as a drug delivery system.
