Nano-emulsification improves physical properties and bioactivities of litsea cubeba essential oil

Yanbo Wang et al.

Summary: This study successfully formulated highly stable and water-dispersible litsea cubeba essential oil nanoemulsions using ultrasonic emulsification, medium-chain triacylglycerol (MCT) and phosphate-buffered saline (PBS). The nanoemulsions showed improved water solubility, stability, and bioactivities (antibacterial, antioxidant and antibiofilm properties) after emulsification, making them a potential novel food preservative.

Black pepper essential oil nanoemulsions formulation using EPI and PIT methods

Ly Thi Minh Hien et al.

Summary: This study compared black pepper essential oil nanoemulsions formulated using emulsion phase inversion and phase inversion temperature methods, finding that the former remained homogeneous for 4 weeks while the latter was more stable during heating-cooling cycles. Additionally, the loading efficiency of emulsion phase inversion samples was higher than phase inversion temperature samples.

Effect of black pepper essential oil on quorum sensing and efflux pump systems in the fish-borne spoiler Pseudomonas psychrophila KM02 identified by RNA-seq, RT-qPCR and molecular docking analyses

Natalia Tomas et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the impact of black pepper essential oil (BPEO) and its major compounds on quorum sensing and efflux pump systems in Pseudomonas psychrophila KM02, revealing a reduction in spoilage potential of seafood. This was confirmed by changes in gene expression and molecular docking analyses, showing decreased synthesis of autoinducers and proteolytic activity.

Anxiolytic and antidepressant-like effects of essential oil from the fruits of Piper nigrum Linn. (Black pepper) in mice: involvement of serotonergic but not GABAergic transmission system

Sourav Ghosh et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that Piper nigrum essential oil exhibited dual anxiolytic and antidepressant-like effects in mice, possibly through serotonin transmission. Furthermore, no signs of locomotor impairment or toxicity were observed after treatment with PNEO, except for a significant decrease in total cholesterol levels.
