Performance of Anaerobic Co-digestion of Pig Slurry with Pineapple (Ananas comosus) Bio-waste Residues

A. Azevedo et al.

Summary: Agro-food industries generate large amounts of bio-waste, leading to the need for innovative valorization strategies within the framework of circular economy principles. Anaerobic digestion technology offers a promising route for stabilizing organic matter and producing biogas as a renewable energy source. This study focused on optimizing the conditions for anaerobic co-digestion of pig slurry with pineapple peel bio-waste, showing potential for increased bioenergy recovery compared to traditional substrates.

Assessment of Cow Dung Pellets as a Renewable Solid Fuel in Direct Combustion Technologies

Aneta Szymajda et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the potential of cow dung as a bioenergy source for direct combustion installations. Results showed promising prospects, with cow dung pellets demonstrating high compaction properties and kinetic durability during pelletization, but high emissions of pollutants were observed during combustion in a fixed grate boiler. The research suggests a novel approach for utilizing cow dung pellets as a renewable energy source available in locations with cattle production.

Organosolv lignin aggregation behaviour of soluble lignin extract from Miscanthus x giganteus at different ethanol concentrations and its influence on the lignin esterification

Muhammad Hazwan Hamzah et al.

Summary: This study investigated the behavior of soluble lignin extracts from Miscanthus x giganteus under different ethanol concentrations, showing changes in particle size and morphology of lignin aggregates with decreasing ethanol concentration. The dispersion of lignin aggregates at low ethanol concentration resulted in higher availability of hydroxyl groups. Esterification using similar ethanol concentration showed improved lignin functionality, suggesting potential for lignin-based materials.

Evaluation of biogas yield and kinetics from the anaerobic co-digestion of cow dung and horse dung: a strategy for sustainable management of livestock manure

Meshach Ileanwa Alfa et al.

Summary: This study investigated the optimal combination of cow dung and horse dung for enhanced biogas production and plant stability. The results showed that a digester with 25% cow dung and 75% horse dung had the highest daily biogas production, indicating the feasibility of using cow dung and horse dung as a source of bioenergy. Further research on pre-treatment methods for greater biogas yield is recommended.
