Profiles and Risk Factors for Teen Dating Violence in Spain

Sonsoles Valdivia-Salas et al.

Summary: Teen dating violence (TDV) refers to harmful behaviors towards romantic partners among adolescents. This study explores the typologies of perpetrators and victims of TDV as well as the risk and protective factors for its occurrence. Limited research has been conducted on Spanish adolescents. By surveying 2,319 Spanish adolescents, it was found that they could be divided into two groups based on their TDV profile. 24% of the sample exhibited higher levels of TDV perpetration and victimization. Compared to the group with lower TDV perpetration and victimization, adolescents in the higher TDV group were more likely to be older boys who scored high in benevolent sexism, school aggression, and personal distress, while scoring low in behavior regulation skills, perspective taking, and practical personal ability.

Individual and Relationship Predictors of Trajectories of Sexual Function across Adolescent and Young Adult Relationships

Lucia F. O'Sullivan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the trajectories of sexual problems in 688 young adults across different relationships, finding persistent suboptimal and optimal trajectories for both men and women, with women also showing persistent and variable problematic function trajectories. The results suggest that higher sexual esteem and more traditional gender beliefs are the best predictors for better sexual function trajectories.

Dating Violence Experiences among Youths with Same-gender and Multi-gender Dating Partners: A Dyadic Concordance Type Approach

Martin Blais et al.

Summary: Dating violence is a widespread issue among youth, with bidirectional patterns being common. Sexual minority youth have higher rates of violence, especially psychological violence, with threatening behaviors being mainly perpetrated by partners. Gender differences exist, where girls are more likely to be victims of sexual violence perpetrated by partners, while boys are more likely to engage in both perpetration and victimization of sexual violence.

Validity and Reliability of the Short Version of the Problematic Pornography Consumption Scale (PPCS-6-A) in Adolescents

Beata Bothe et al.

Summary: This study validated a short, theory-based measure of problematic pornography use (PPU) among adolescents and identified a potentially at-risk group using the Problematic Pornography Consumption Scale for adolescents (PPCS-6-A). The scale demonstrated strong psychometric properties, including factor structure and measurement invariance, and accurately identified adolescents at risk of PPU. This tool could be useful in future studies for better understanding the prevalence and characteristics of adolescents' PPU.

Mediating Factors Explaining the Association Between Sexual Minority Status and Dating Violence

Alexa Martin-Storey et al.

Summary: Dating violence poses a serious threat to individual health and well-being, especially for sexual minority individuals, such as bisexuals, who may be at a higher risk compared to heterosexuals. Discrimination plays a crucial role in explaining the vulnerability to dating violence among sexual minority individuals, particularly bisexuals, while other factors like number of sexual partners and alcohol use do not significantly explain the vulnerability compared to heterosexual peers.
