Behavioral avoidance of contagious and non-contagious adults

Vanessa LoBue et al.

Summary: This study examines the behavioral avoidance of individuals with contagious illnesses or physical injuries and the mechanisms underlying this behavior. The results show that adults explicitly avoid contact with individuals displaying symptoms of contagious illnesses, and there is some evidence suggesting that implicit, unconscious processes may drive avoidance of individuals with physical injuries.
