Hydrogel interfaces show great potential for use in advanced deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) detection schemes. Here, a convenient low-cost DNA functionalized hydrogel array fabrication is described. A fast one-pot synthesis is employed for the generation of highly porous acrylamide-based hydrogels on glass. No additional lengthy surface activation is needed; the matrix readily binds to the surface concomitant with polymerization and DNA functionalization of the network. By introduction of lithium phenyl-2,4,6-trimethyl-benzoyl-phosphinate, photoinitiated radical polymerization is attainable by visible light within 20 min. These hydrogel chips show ideal performance in application for on-site DNA detection.
