The association between adverse childhood experiences and childhood obesity: A systematic review

Krista Schroeder et al.

Summary: Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are associated with childhood obesity, with girls potentially more sensitive to the effects of ACEs than boys. Sexual abuse seems to have a greater impact on childhood obesity than other ACEs, and the co-occurrence of multiple ACEs may increase the risk of childhood obesity. Additionally, the effects of ACEs on childhood obesity may take 2-5 years to become evident.

Assessing adverse childhood experiences, social, emotional, and behavioral symptoms, and subjective health complaints among Hungarian adolescents

Beata Kovacs-Toth et al.

Summary: Adverse childhood experiences, social, emotional, and behavioral symptoms, as well as subjective health complaints are common among Hungarian adolescents. There is a high frequency of ACEs, with one-fourth of students reporting at least two categories of childhood exposures and 7.4% reporting having experienced at least four types of ACEs. The most prevalent forms of child maltreatment were emotional neglect and abuse, while dysfunctional household conditions included parental divorce or separation, household substance abuse, and household mental illness. Association between ACEs and SEB/SHC symptoms reported by students were significant.
