Stemness Maintenance and Massproduction of Neural Stem Cells on Poly L-Lactic Acid Nanofibrous Membrane Based on Piezoelectriceffect

Xiheng Lu et al.

Summary: This article presents a method of promoting the expansion and maintaining the stemness of neural stem cells (NSCs) using wireless electrical stimulation triggered by piezoelectric nanomaterials. The study demonstrates that the use of these materials significantly enhances NSCs proliferation and maintains their undifferentiated state. The findings suggest that this approach has potential for mass production of NSCs for cell therapy applications.

Accelerating Cell Migration along Radially Aligned Nanofibers through the Addition of Electrosprayed Nanoparticles in a Radial Density Gradient

Jiajia Xue et al.

Summary: This study reports a simple and general method to fabricate scaffolds capable of promoting cell migration from the periphery toward the center by depositing collagen nanoparticles on radially aligned nanofibers in a radial density gradient. The synergistic effect of aligned nanofibers and graded nanoparticles further accelerates cell migration along the radial direction.

Photothermal-Triggered Structural Change of Nanofiber Scaffold Integrating with Graded Mineralization to Promote Tendon-Bone Healing

Chenghao Yu et al.

Summary: This study reports the use of a heterogeneous nanofiber scaffold with graded changes in fiber alignment and mineral content for tendon-bone healing. The scaffold was found to be biocompatible, providing beneficial contact guidance for tendon-derived stem cells in vitro. The scaffold also enabled simultaneous tenogenic and osteogenic differentiation of the cells. In vivo investigation showed improved healing of rabbit rotator cuff injuries, indicating the potential of this dual-gradient nanofiber scaffold in clinical tendon-bone healing.

Decellularized Extracellular Matrix Containing Electrospun Fibers for Nerve Regeneration: A Comparison Between Core-Shell Structured and Preblended Composites

Rongli Deng et al.

Summary: Advanced biomaterial-based strategies for treatment of peripheral nerve injury require precise control over both topological and biological cues for facilitating rapid and directed nerve regeneration. Decellularized extracellular matrix (dECM) derived from peripheral nerves, known as decellularized nerve matrix (DNM), has outstanding capabilities in facilitating neurite outgrowth and remyelination. This study compares core-shell structured and preblended electrospinning of DNM/poly(epsilon-caprolactone) (PCL) composites, providing an applicable paradigm for advanced tissue-engineered strategies using dECM-based biomaterials.

Promotion of Neurite Outgrowth and Extension Using Injectable Welded Nanofibers

Feng Zhendong et al.

Summary: A general strategy was developed to create injectable welded nanofibers for promoting the outgrowth and extension of neurites. By welding short nanofibers at their cross points, the viability and neurite outgrowth of neuroblastoma cells were enhanced. This approach has the potential to impact nerve repair and neurite extension in the central nervous system.

Axonal regeneration and sprouting as a potential therapeutic target for nervous system disorders

Katherine L. Marshall et al.

Summary: Nervous system disorders are common health issues that will continue to increase in frequency as the population ages. Dying-back axonopathy is a hallmark of many neurologic diseases, leading to axonal disconnection from targets and functional impairment. In some diseases, axons can regenerate or sprout in an attempt to reconnect with targets and restore synapse function.
