Organic production of gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata) using organic certified green pea protein and seaweed. Effects on growth, feed conversion and final product quality.

A. Estevez et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the use of novel ingredients such as green pea protein and Ascophyllum nodosum, a brown seaweed, as replacements for fish meal in organic feeds. Both lab-scale and large-scale trials were conducted on gilthead seabream to compare the growth, feed utilization, and fillet composition between a novel feed and a typical commercial feed suitable for organic production. The results showed no significant differences in the growth and composition of the fish fed the alternative ingredients, indicating that these ingredients can be used as alternatives to fish meal without negative effects on fish health and end product quality.

Growth, body composition, and survival of juvenile white bass (Morone chrysops) when dietary fish meal is partially or totally replaced by soybean meal, poultry by-product meal, an all-plant protein blend or a commercial plant-animal protein blend

Steven D. Rawles et al.

Summary: White bass is a popular sportfish in the southern United States, but commercial production is currently lacking due to limited information on nutrition and high costs. In this study, the growth and composition of white bass fed different protein ingredients were evaluated. Replacing marine fish meal with soybean meal and poultry by-product meal resulted in similar performance, suggesting that white bass can be fed fish meal-free diets without compromising growth.

Effects of fishmeal replacement with composite mixture of shrimp hydrolysate and plant proteins on growth performance, feed utilization, and target of rapamycin pathway in largemouth bass, Micropterus salmoides

Songlin Li et al.

Summary: By partially replacing fishmeal with a mixture of shrimp hydrolysate and plant proteins, growth performance of largemouth bass can be significantly improved, with fishmeal content in diets reduced to 30%. The replacement of fishmeal increased the apparent digestibility coefficients of protein and amino acids, and activated the TOR pathway.
