Growth-promoting and immunostimulatory effects of phytobiotics as dietary supplements for Pangasianodon hypophthalmus fingerlings

Summary: A 56-day feeding experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of five herbal extracts on the growth, immune indices, and ammonia-N stress resistance of Pangasianodon hypophthalmus fingerlings. The results showed that feeding the fish with herbal extracts-based diets significantly improved growth, serum immune indices, and survival under ammonia stress. These findings suggest that using herbal extracts as feed supplements can enhance the growth and immunity of P. hypophthalmus fingerlings and increase their tolerance to external stressors.

Assessment of zootechnical parameters, intestinal digestive enzymes, haemato-immune responses, and hepatic antioxidant status of Pangasianodon hypophthalmus fingerlings reared under different stocking densities

Summary: This study investigated the effects of different stocking densities on the growth, stress markers, digestive enzymes, antioxidant biomarkers, serum immunity, and survivability of striped catfish. It was found that increasing stocking densities led to elevated levels of stress markers, decreased growth rates, and decreased activity of digestive enzymes and antioxidant biomarkers. Moreover, water quality parameters were affected by fish stocking densities. Overall, a stocking density of 60 fish/m³ resulted in better growth, survival, immunity, antioxidant status, and overall performances of striped catfish.

Salinity significantly affects intestinal microbiota and gene expression in striped catfish juveniles

Summary: In this study, the intestinal microbiota of juvenile striped catfish exposed to a salinity gradient was investigated. It was found that the diversity of the intestinal microbiota decreased with increasing salinity, and certain microbial genera were affected differently. Furthermore, the expression of certain genes associated with osmoregulation and stress responses was modified in the fish intestine. These findings indicate that the intestinal microbiota and gene expression play important roles in the adaptation of fish to hyperosmotic environments.
