Exposure to oxyfluorfen-induced hematobiochemical alterations, oxidative stress, genotoxicity, and disruption of sex hormones in male African catfish and the potential to confront by Chlorella vulgaris

Abdallah Tageldein Mansour et al.

Summary: The present study evaluated the effect of chronic exposure to oxyfluorfen on physiological responses of male African catfish and the ameliorative effect of Chlorella vulgaris. Chronic exposure to oxyfluorfen induced severe anemia and leukopenia, as well as affecting liver and kidney function biomarkers. However, dietary supplementation of Chlorella vulgaris successfully alleviated the negative impact of oxyfluorfen on hematobiochemical parameters and restored the antioxidant balance in the liver and testes.

Main Components of Fish Immunity: An Overview of the Fish Immune System

Doaa M. Mokhtar et al.

Summary: Cellular immune responses in fish include both innate and adaptive cell-mediated immune mechanisms, involving various leukocyte subpopulations. These mechanisms play crucial roles in processes like cytotoxicity and phagocytosis. This review provides the latest insights into the cellular defense mechanisms of fish, particularly focusing on the mucosal immune system and its role in maintaining overall fish health. The article discusses the fundamental concepts underlying mucosal immune responses in fish, as well as the involvement of innate and adaptive immune cells and molecules. Importantly, it reviews antigen processing and presentation, enabling a better understanding and manipulation of the pathways responsible for protective immunity in aquaculture.

Zeinab. M. El-bouhy et al.

Summary: Profenofos is a major toxicant that pollutes freshwater bodies and has a significant impact on fish health. It was found that exposure to Profenofos led to behavioral toxicity in fish and caused changes in various physiological and biochemical parameters. Histopathological alterations were observed in the liver, kidney, and muscles of the fish after exposure to Profenofos.

Moringa oleifera and Azadirachta indica Leaves Enriched Diets Mitigate Chronic Oxyfluorfen Toxicity Induced Immunosuppression through Disruption of Pro/Anti-Inflammatory Gene Pathways, Alteration of Antioxidant Gene Expression, and Histopathological Alteration in Oreochromis niloticus

Rowida E. Ibrahim et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of dietary supplementation with Moringa oleifera and Azadirachta indica leaves on the health, immune and antioxidant gene expressions, and tissue morphological alterations in Oreochromis niloticus exposed to chronic oxyfluorfen toxicity. The results showed that both M. oleifera and A. indica could efficiently mitigate the toxic effects of oxyfluorfen. Comparing the two supplements, M. oleifera was found to be more potent in alleviating the toxic effects of oxyfluorfen.

Oxyfluorfen induces hepatotoxicity through lipo-sugar accumulation and inflammation in zebrafish (Danio rerio)

Zekun Li et al.

Summary: This study using zebrafish as a model animal found that oxyfluorfen affected the early development and liver metabolism of zebrafish, leading to liver damage and inflammation. The research suggests that oxyfluorfen has toxic effects on zebrafish and potentially harmful to other aquatic organisms and humans.

Milk thistle and co-enzyme Q10 fortified diets lessen the nickel chloride-induced neurotoxic and neurobehavioral impairments in Oreochromis niloticus via regulating the oxidative stress response, acetylcholinesterase activity, and brain nickel content

Alshimaa A. Khalil et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of milk thistle powder (MTP) and/or co-enzyme Q10 (CoQ10) supplementation on the neurobehavioral performance, brain oxidative status, and histological picture in Nile tilapia reared in nickel-polluted water. The results showed that MTP and/or CoQ10 supplementation reversed the negative effects of nickel on feeding behavior and aggression, restored antioxidant brain content, reduced malondialdehyde levels, and mitigated histopathological abnormalities. Overall, MTP and CoQ10 achieved the best neurobehavioral performance and brain oxidative status.

Modulatory Effect of Papaya Extract against Chlorpyrifos-Induced Oxidative Stress, Immune Suppression, Endocrine Disruption, and DNA Damage in Female Clarias gariepinus

Abdallah Tageldein Mansour et al.

Summary: Chlorpyrifos (CPF), widely used organophosphorus pesticide in agriculture, has been found in the aquatic environment. In this study, the effects of CPF exposure and dietary supplementation of papaya extract on the oxidative stress, immune system, sexual hormones, and DNA integrity of female African catfish were investigated. The results showed that CPF exposure caused stress, liver damage, hormonal imbalance, and DNA damage in the catfish. However, the dietary supplementation of papaya extract alleviated these negative effects and improved the physiological, immunological, and antioxidant status of the catfish.
