Liver description in three neotropical anuran species: from anatomy to ultrastructure

Lara Zacari Fanali et al.

Summary: This study described the morphological aspects of liver in three Neotropical anuran species and found that their anatomical and ultrastructural features are quite similar, but with differences in structural arrangements in histology. Understanding the hepatic morphology and ultrastructure in amphibians is crucial for detecting changes in experimental studies and inferring possible physiological or metabolic changes under adverse conditions.

Seasonal Differences in Water Pollution and Liver Histopathology of Iberian Barbel (Luciobarbus bocagei) and Douro Nase (Pseudochondrostoma duriense) in an Agricultural Watershed

Regina Maria Bessa Santos et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the histological changes in the liver of Iberian barbel and Douro nase due to seasonal variations in water quality. The severity of liver histopathological alterations varied between moderate and severe, with higher prevalence in the summer season and at downstream and middle stream sampling points. Exposure to metals was found to increase the risk of liver damage. The severity of liver histopathological changes differed according to the type of contaminants and sampling periods, and can serve as a valuable indicator of water quality.

Effect of induced sublethal intoxication with neonicotinoid insecticides on Egyptian toads (Sclerophrys regularis)

Enas Mohamed Saad et al.

Summary: The study aimed to illustrate the effects of two neonicotinoids on Egyptian toads, showing that acetamiprid exhibited more pronounced toxic effects compared to thiamethoxam. These findings suggest potential threats to the survival of toads from indirect effects of neonicotinoids.

Assesment of hematotoxic, oxidative and genotoxic damage potentials of fipronil in rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss, Walbaum

Arzu Ucar et al.

Summary: This study examined the effects of Fipronil insecticide on the blood tissue of rainbow trout, revealing significant alterations in hematology parameters and enzyme activities, as well as increased genotoxicity and apoptosis in blood cells. The findings suggest that Fipronil induces physiological stress changes in the examined tissues through various biomarkers.

Hepatotoxic Effects of Atrazine on Clarias gariepinus (Burchell, 1822): Biochemical and Histopathological Studies

P. A. Opute et al.

Summary: The study found that atrazine interferes with liver function markers and disrupts the normal structural components of the liver, resulting in noninfectious liver injury. This condition led to repeated cycles, cell deaths, and inflammation, which could eventually result in the death of exposed fish if exposure duration was prolonged.

Genotoxic and melanic alterations in Lithobates catesbeianus (anura) tadpoles exposed to fipronil insecticide

Arleto T. Santos et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the genotoxic and morphological systemic effects of fipronil on bullfrog tadpoles. The exposure to fipronil led to morphological changes in skin, liver, and blood biomarkers, including decreased darkness in heads and tails and reduced individual weight and liver mass. Genotoxic effects were observed even after short exposure times, with a correlation between abnormal nuclear cells and melanin levels. Fipronil has systemic effects on tadpoles based on its concentration and exposure time, potentially impacting their behavior and survival.
