Analytical Design of Coreless Axial-Flux Permanent Magnet Machine With Planar Coils

Zdenek Frank et al.

Summary: This paper presents the design of an axial-flux permanent magnet (AFPM) generator with two rotors and one coreless stator with planar coils. The geometry reduces the total mass and production demands of the generator, and allows for direct analytical calculation of the magnetic field in the air gap. The analytical design principles of the AFPM machine are integrated into the developed software deSAX, and validated by 3D finite-element analysis. The generator is successfully tested under off-grid operation, producing a maximal power of 200 W at 750 rpm.

Statistical Analysis of Manufacturing Tolerances Effect on Axial-Flux Permanent Magnet Machines Cogging Torque

Andres Escobar et al.

Summary: This study provides a tolerance analysis of a TCW-AFPM machine with iron-less rotor core, showing that the cogging torque is significantly affected by remanence deviation and angular displacement of magnets. The statistical analysis using an adapted superposition method helps evaluate the impact of tolerance combinations on the machine's performance.

Investigations of Magnet Shape Impacts on Coreless Axial-Flux PM Machine Performances

Omolbanin Taqavi et al.

Summary: This study explores the advantages and challenges of axial-flux permanent magnet (AFPM) machines, proposing the use of magnet shapes to improve performance. By using 3D finite element analysis (FEA) to design and analyze coreless double rotor AFPM machines, it is found that magnets with sector-like shapes offer superior performance.
