Prediction of dry matter content of recently harvested 'Hass' avocado fruits using hyperspectral imaging

Jhon Jairo Vega Diaz et al.

Summary: The study found no correlation between fruit weight and color with the percentage of DM. Cross-validation efficiency of different data sources was compared, and the best prediction set for DM percentage of fruits was selected using support vector machine regression with hyperspectral images. The results suggest that hyperspectral images can classify export fruits and assist in making harvesting decisions.

Does global food trade close the dietary nutrient gap for the world's poorest nations?

Ozge Geyik et al.

Summary: Global food trade facilitates the movement of dietary nutrients between countries, but research shows that it does not substantially improve the nutrient adequacy of most low and lower-middle income countries. Concerns remain around the supply of important nutrients such as vitamin A and B12 in these countries, indicating the need for nutrition-sensitive production and trade policies to enhance global nutrition security.

Measuring the Ripeness of Fruit with Hyperspectral Imaging and Deep Learning

Leon Amadeus Varga et al.

Summary: This study introduces a system to measure fruit ripeness using a hyperspectral camera and a deep neural network architecture, which outperformed baseline models in predicting fruit ripeness. A dataset of ripening avocados and kiwis was recorded and made public, along with a description of the data collection process for easy adaptation to other fruits. The trained network was empirically validated and features were investigated, while a technique for visualizing the ripening process was introduced.
