Clinical features and oncological outcomes of intestinal cancers associated with ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease

Tatsuki Noguchi et al.

Summary: Patients with longstanding inflammatory bowel disease, such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease, are at high risk of developing intestinal cancers. This study found significant differences between intestinal cancers associated with ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. Crohn's disease-associated cancers were diagnosed at more advanced stages, detected less frequently by surveillance, and had a poorer prognosis compared to those associated with ulcerative colitis.

Reasons for delay in timely administration of adjuvant chemotherapy for patients with stage III colon cancer: a multicentre cohort study from the McGill University Department of Oncology

Arielle Elkrief et al.

Summary: A study was conducted to evaluate adherence to clinical practice guidelines for stage III colon cancer patients within the RCN partner hospitals from 2012 to 2015. Results showed that only 27% of patients met the 56-day target for adjuvant chemotherapy initiation, while 71% met the 84-day target. Factors such as increasing age, surgical complications, and diagnosis timeframe were associated with reduced likelihood of meeting these targets.
