Acaricidal activity of Mentha suaveolens subsp. timija, Chenopodium ambrosioides, and Laurus nobilis essential oils, and their synergistic combinations against the ectoparasitic bee mite, Varroa destructor (Acari: Varroidae)

Abdessamad Aglagane et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the toxicity of essential oils extracted from Timija Mentha suaveolens L. subsp., Chenopodium ambrosioides L., and Laurus nobilis L. against Varroa destructor adult mites. The combination of the three oils exhibited high synergistic effectiveness in reducing effective doses, making them a promising alternative to synthetic acaricides. These essential oil combinations could offer a solution to reduce doses while effectively combating mites.

Some Considerations about Winter Colony Losses in Italy According to the Coloss Questionnaire

Franco Mutinelli et al.

Summary: According to data from the national beekeeping registry, the Italian beekeeping industry has grown steadily during the last decade. Winter colony losses remain a concern for beekeepers in Italy. The administration of the Coloss questionnaire could provide better understanding of this phenomenon. This study analyzed data from 2014-2015 and 2020-2021 to examine the causes of colony losses and treatments for Varroa mite infestation.
