Nanoemulgel: A Novel Nano Carrier as a Tool for Topical Drug Delivery

Mahipal Reddy Donthi et al.

Summary: Nano-emulgel is a novel drug delivery system that aims to enhance the therapeutic effectiveness of lipophilic drugs. It addresses the limitations of lipophilic formulations such as poor solubility, unpredictable absorption, and low oral bioavailability. By incorporating nano-emulsion into gel, the stability and drug delivery for immediate and controlled release are improved. The focus on nano-emulgel has increased due to its targeted delivery, ease of application, absence of gastrointestinal degradation or the first pass metabolism, and safety profile. This review discusses the formulation components, pharmacokinetics, and safety profiles of nano-emulgel for topical drug delivery.

Polymeric Nanoparticles as Tunable Nanocarriers for Targeted Delivery of Drugs to Skin Tissues for Treatment of Topical Skin Diseases

Eiman Abdalla Madawi et al.

Summary: The topical route is the most appropriate for drug delivery to skin tissues, but the stratum corneum acts as a significant barrier. Nanotechnology-aided interventions, especially polymeric nanoparticles (PNPs) made from natural polymers, have shown potential for the treatment of various topical skin diseases. The encapsulation or adsorption of drugs onto PNPs improves their properties and allows for controlled release, permeation, and retention in the skin layers. Further functionalization techniques have also shown success in optimizing PNPs' therapeutic efficacy.
