Anion Storage Chemistry of Organic Cathodes for High-Energy and High-Power Density Divalent Metal Batteries

Yanlei Xiu et al.

Summary: Multivalent batteries have promising prospects in sustainable energy storage applications. This study introduces a polytriphenylamine (PTPAn) composite cathode that can reversibly store [B(hfip)(4)] anions in both Magnesium (Mg) and calcium (Ca) battery systems. The Mg and Ca cells exhibit high cell voltage, power density, and energy density. Furthermore, the combination of the PTPAn cathode with a calcium-tin (Ca-Sn) alloy anode shows a long battery life and capacity retention. The findings highlight the potential of dual-ion electrochemical concept for high-performance divalent ion batteries.

Combining Quinone-Based Cathode with an Efficient Borate Electrolyte for High-Performance Magnesium Batteries

Yanlei Xiu et al.

Summary: Rechargeable magnesium batteries are attracting attention due to their high energy, safety, and sustainability, yet the lack of efficient cathode materials and compatible electrode-electrolyte combinations hinders their development. A new poly(1,4-anthraquinone)/Ketjenblack composite with a non-corrosive electrolyte has shown remarkable electrochemical performance in magnesium batteries, including high discharge capacity, cycling stability, and rate capability.
