Amaranthus grain as a new ingredient in diets for dairy cows: productive, qualitative, and in vitro fermentation traits

Serena Calabro et al.

Summary: The study found that both species of grain amaranths showed comparable or higher seed yields than traditional cereal crops in the same environment. Nutritionally, differences between species and accessions were minimal, but from a health perspective, the Nebraska accession of A. hypochondriacus displayed the lowest saturated fatty acid content and highest polyunsaturated fatty acid content.

Influences of Dietary Supplementation with Maca (Lepidium meyenii) on Performance, Parameters of Growth Curve and Carcass Characteristics in Japanese Quail

Firdevs Korkmaz Turgud et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of adding maca plant powder to the ration at different levels on the growth, slaughter carcass, partial egg production, and reproductive characteristics of Japanese quail. The results showed that adding maca powder increased feed consumption, reduced embryonic deaths, and improved chick quality. However, no positive effects were observed on growth, slaughter carcass, partial egg production, and fertility during the fattening period in Japanese quails.

Castanea sativa Mill. Leaf: UHPLC-HR MS/MS Analysis and Effects on In Vitro Rumen Fermentation and Methanogenesis

Marialuisa Formato et al.

Summary: Chestnut leaves are a valuable byproduct rich in bioactive compounds that can be used as animal feed ingredients. Through extraction and fractionation, the polyphenolic constituents in chestnut leaves were effectively separated and showed antioxidant and methane-inhibiting activities. These findings demonstrate the potential of chestnut leaves as a sustainable and novel feed ingredient.

Effect of Aqueous Extract of Maca Addition to an Extender for Chilled Canine Semen

Chiara Del Prete et al.

Summary: The addition of Maca extract to canine chilled extender showed positive effects on sperm hyperactivation and DNA integrity in short-term storage. However, high concentrations of Maca had immediately deleterious effects on semen quality. Maca supplementation also increased sperm hyperactivation, preserved DNA integrity, and reduced lipid peroxidation in short-term storage.

In vitro evaluation of sugar digestibility in molasses

Alberto Palmonari et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated variations in the digestion rates of different sugars in molasses. Sucrose, glucose, and fructose were rapidly digested by rumen microbes, with rates higher than observed in vivo. This suggests a need for modern rationing models to consider modifying sugar digestion rates to accurately reflect in vitro observations.
