Effect of complexing agent and deposition time on structural, morphological, optical and electrical properties of cuprous oxide thin films prepared by chemical bath deposition

Odin Reyes-Vallejo et al.

Summary: The complexing agent TEA plays a key role in promoting the adherence and crystallinity of Cu2O thin films, as well as controlling the thickness by regulating the release of Cu+ ions. Thinner films exhibit orientation along the (111) plane, while thicker films show orientation along the (200) plane. The decrease in structural defects and disorder leads to enhanced resistivity as the film thickness increases.

Enhanced photocatalytic performance of visible-light-driven CuOx/TiO2-x for degradation of gaseous formaldehyde: Roles of oxygen vacancies and nano copper oxides

Yang Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, oxygen vacancies (OVs) and nano copper oxides (CuOx) synergistically modified TiO2 photocatalysts were successfully synthesized for the efficient removal of formaldehyde. The results showed that the CuOx/TiO2-x nanocomposites exhibited high photocatalytic activity, reaching a decomposition efficiency of 100% under visible light irradiation. The presence of OVs increased the separation efficiency of charge carriers and acted as active sites, while CuOx enhanced the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), leading to the high performance of the photocatalyst. Furthermore, stability tests demonstrated that the CuOx/TiO2-x nanocomposites maintained a stable and high photoactivity even after multiple cycles.

Facile synthesis of zinc oxide nanoparticles loaded activated carbon as an eco-friendly adsorbent for ultra-removal of malachite green from water

Esra Altintig et al.

Summary: Green synthesis ultrasonic method is used to prepare zinc oxide nanoparticles loaded on activated carbon derived from coffee waste for the effective elimination of malachite green from wastewater. The adsorption capacity of the developed Zn(OH)(2)-AC composite increases with initial dye concentration, pH, and temperature, while it decreases with higher composite dose. The Langmuir isotherm model shows better fitting than the Freundlich model, with maximum removal capacity achieved at 318 K and pH 7.0.

Synthesis and characterization of a novel single-phase sputtered Cu2O thin films: Structural, antibacterial activity and photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue

Mohsin Raza Dustgeer et al.

Summary: This study focused on the use of Cu2O thin films deposited via DC magnetron sputtering at different substrate temperatures for the degradation of methylene blue in wastewater. The Cu2O thin films prepared at a substrate temperature of 200 degrees C exhibited excellent photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue, attributed to their crystalline structure, optical band gap, and surface defects. Kinetic modeling data showed that the chemisorption mechanism was dominant for methylene blue adsorption by all types of Cu2O thin films. This research not only provides a potential alternative for traditional UV-based wastewater treatment technologies, but also introduces a self-response method to reduce microbial contamination on various surfaces.

Cu vacancies enhanced photoelectrochemical activity of metal-organic gel-derived CuO for the detection of L-cysteine

Chang Ping Yang et al.

Summary: This study reports the influence of Cu vacancies (VCu) on the PEC performance of CuO derived from a Cu-MOG precursor, demonstrating that the presence of more VCu can improve the PEC activity of CuO photocathode. The as-prepared CuO showed high sensitivity and selectivity in detecting L-Cys as a new PEC sensor, with a detection limit of 0.04 μM. This work not only provides insights into the role of VCu in the PEC process of photocathodes, but also proves the high potential applicability of CuO as a PEC device for biomolecule detection.
